We know there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the spring season and its resolution. The list below represents the most common questions we are receiving. If you do not see an answer you need, please do not hesitate to contact one of us!
Q: Is the Spring season canceled?
A: Yes. On April 30th, WYSA and MAYSA officially canceled all spring games, tournaments, and other activities. The only exception is virtual at-home training.
· You can see the WYSA statement here.
· You can access MGSC’s virtual training library here.
Q: Will MGSC be offering refunds or credits?
A: Yes. The Board is currently weighing multiple options to assist returning families for the 2020/21 season and we expect to finalize those out soon. There will also be a donation option for families that are able to do so to further support the club.
Q: Can teams just practice?
A: No. Both WYSA and MAYSA have made clear that in-person practices are suspended until further notice. A specific Return to Play plan will be issued by WYSA.
Q: Any chance of playing this summer?
A: Depending on what Safer-At-Home guidelines are in place, MAYSA may have the opportunity to set up a shortened summer season.
Q: Is MGSC doing tryouts this year?
A: The earliest we can hold tryouts is July 13th. Given our current situation, it is highly unlikely that “normal” tryouts will be held. For players currently in the club, we will be proffering Early Offers starting in the next 2-3 weeks. These will look like the letters you are accustomed to. In addition, families will now have 72 hours to respond.
For players coming from outside the club, the Director of Coaching will have an evaluation system in place using live stream technology to ensure that players are placed on teams appropriately. We’re not yet sure what that may look like, but options may include Zoom calls, video evaluations, etc.
Q: Will there be a Fall season?
A: The situation remains fluid, but MGSC is operating on the assumption that play WILL resume in the fall, and that we will come back as a stronger club.
In the meantime, we encourage players and families to stay connected. Regular updates will be posted to the club website, as well as emailed out to everyone. You can also join our Facebook page or follow us on Instagram. Feel free to share pictures/videos of training at home. Please be sure to tag us in any posts!
Thank you all again for your continued patience and support as we move through this together.
